I just realized it is less than two weeks until Black Friday
Why does that excite a 39-year-old dude? I don’t know it just does. I don’t really do anything for Black Friday. I’m not there in line for all the door-busters coordinating my agenda.
The last few years I have gone to Half Price Books for their door buster. It isn’t even all that spectacular. I guess it is the event itself plus I spend the morning with one of my best friends of 30 years, which is always quality time when I can arrange it.
I often wonder if this Black Friday desire stems from my childhood and my Sears Wish Book Memories or as I always called it, The Sears Catalog…
I used to get this thing, sometime around Thanksgiving and I carried it with me all the time until Christmas was over.
I marked up the items I wanted most and looked at them for hours at a time. I would fantasize about how I would play with all these awesome toys which were mostly Star Wars figures, GI Joe or Transformer Toys. I would think about how I could recreate the mountains and dioramas they used in the photos. I know I am a bit of a weirdo. It doesn’t bother me.
Over the past year, as I have done a ton of research to learn about 80’s toys and such. I have been pretty amazed with the things I have been able to locate on the Internet that people have kept intact. Because of this, I assumed the Sears Catalog was something I could locate as well and guess what, It is!
I located site that houses several years worth of pages from the Sears Catalog. The pages below are from years ranging from 1982 to 1985.
I got them from This Site. It is a worthy site if you are a fan of the old catalog. Definitely check it out. There are tons of entries.
My tiny sampling doesn’t even scratch the surface. I can’t be the only one who loves this stuff, right? Who’s with me?
