A couple of days ago I posted a little blurb on my facebook page called “Spoiler Alert! (sorta).” The gist being that somehow a fan got ahold of the, soon to release, The Force Awakens action figures. Since then, more and more incidents have been popping up all across the country of “accidentally” released action figures for the new movie. The biggest offender has been Walmart stores. Why can’t I be so lucky to find them…
Some early fan reaction seems to be somewhat underwhelmed by the first wave of figures though you would never guess that, because the auctions on ebay have complete sets of the 12 figures selling for around $500. Still, I can’t help but feel, in this case, a fool and his money are easily parted. If the last Star Wars action figure craze (roughly 1995-2005) was any indication these huge investments will soon be worth no more than the cardboard in which their blister pack is glued. On September 4th the 1st wave will hit stores at midnight and the masses will be able to get their hands on the new figures.
The most notable figures in the line are probably the new villains: Kylo Rhen & Captain Phasma though I would point out that an Empire Strikes Back Luke in Bespin Gear and Darth Vader are also included in the set.
Most people have asked me if I thought these characters would be features as flashbacks or in some capacity in the new movie and honestly I don’t know but I did notice the one thing that makes these figures differ from the other 10 is the lack of “The Force Awakens” type under the Star Wars Logo. Very interesting…
