Typically this time of year is an extremely busy time for me so I haven’t had much time to enjoy all the cool stuff I’ve recently picked up. The big item is the NES Classic Edition, and it may induce anger in some, because it is hard to come by right now. Regrettably, I haven’t even looked at it for a second and it has been bugging me. All I want to do is hook it up and play for a bit.
I picked up a NES classic for myself. (Full disclosure, I’m a Nintendo fanboy.) Honestly, I thought, at 60 bucks it was a steal. I would have paid $80 without even batting an eye. For a Nintendo geek they thing has shelf appeal. I mean let’s face it, there are emulators, I have most of the 30 games included on it already so it isn’t like I’m clamoring for some Mario 3 or anything. But looking at the list (and I’ll have it below) I notice it isn’t quite what I would put on the console if given the choice.
What is missing:
- Blaster Master: An all out classic. A hard and unforgiving game but when you scored upgrades for Sofia they were worth the effort.
- Solstice: One of my faves. I don’t know if it is that I liked the room by room puzzles, the 3/4 turned view or the hours of solitude spent playing.
- Rygar: One of my all time favorites. I like the gameplay, the upgrades, the story. It was just a solid game with a cool soundtrack.
- Faxanadu: One of the NES unsung heroes. This game went relatively unnoticed and it’s a shame because it was cool.
- Contra: Who doesn’t love Contra? Great game!
- Baseball Stars: I spent hours, days, weeks playing this game. It was the best Baseball game for the NES.
- Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics 2 I was a huge fan of ST1. I never got to play Zoda’s. I had moved on to the SNES and missed it.
- Battle of Olympus: Another unsung hero. I remember the commercials, I just forgot to play the game until 20 years later. Sorry I skipped it. It was a great adventure with some really difficult parts (Getting salamander skins for example)
- Kung Fu: A black box NES classic. Just an all around fun game and it was my first experience with the NES, and made me want one.
- Soloman’s Key: Great Puzzle Game. I loved to play this game, I never owned it but probably should have.
The NES Classic, a verdict:
But honestly, with the ones that are there, I am most excited to play Kid Icarus, Castlevania, Ghosts’n Goblins Super Mario 2, The Adventure of Link and Final Fantasy.
What games do you think should be on the NES Classic? I’m sure there are a few you’d want to see and I know I left a bunch of great ones out. There are something like 600 plus titles for the NES so it;s not easy task to pick 10. Also if you are angry about not getting one, be sure to sign up for my giveaway. And lastly where did I get my extra Classic? Well I ordered it from a small online retailer like myself. You never know what fortunes you’ll find by shopping small businesses so give them a shot.
